Useful Information

AvoTalk is a messaging protocol developed by Avolites which allows network devices to communicate with each other (for example a Media server and a lighting console).

ActiveDevice is an Avolites system that allows a console to use bi-directional communication with a fixture. It can operate over the AvoTalk protocol or another similar protocol. If a fixture is an Active Device then it can offer huge benefits to a user when operating it from a console. It is possible, for example to offer the user feedback from the fixture on the console displays or remove the need for some settings on the fixture to be configured manually.

A number of Active Fixture plugins have already been developed for media server software and can be downloaded from here. These plugins are installed on the active device and provide a network interface between the console and the media server software. The actual control of the fixture's attributes is achieved using ArtNET in a conventional manner.

Developers
The purpose of this section is to provide software developers with the information necessary to implement AvoTalk and Active Fixtures on their device. The Active Device SDK provides information and examples of using AvoTalk.
